It was heartening to recently see Donald Trump gleefully posing with a copy of the book The Game: All Things Trump by Andres Serrano at the US presidential candidate’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The book, published in 2020, shows a wealth of Trump paraphernalia including a slice of his wedding cake, boxing gloves and Playboy covers.
The publication, and an accompanying touring show, is “a journey through the world Donald Trump created for himself… his brand, his name, his casinos, his hotels, his products, his everything”, says the organisation a/political, which organised the cheeky project.
Serrano is best-known for Immersion (Piss Christ), a photograph of a crucifix in urine that caused some controversy with Republican senators in the late 1980s and also led to death threats. The photographer tells The Art Newspaper that the picture of Trump is “very comical because of who he is and who I am. But in my world and his, it makes sense”.
Surely he’s taking the piss...
