Thefts, restitution demands, sponsorship protests, and fending off monsters from another dimension—it seems the demands of running the British Museum never end. At least the last one is only a problem in a newly announced videogame, Tides of Annihilation.
Made by a previously unknown Chinese developer, Eclipse Glow Games, the game is set in a modern day London that has been subjected to an otherworldly invasion. In a gameplay walkthrough video, we see heroine Gwendolyn come upon the “Britannia Museum”, but instead of queues for the bag checks, the forecourt is filled with a mysterious glowing tree.
As the game progresses, the character crosses a flooded Great Court and then engages in a destructive battle inside the Reading Room, in which much of the historic furniture is destroyed amid a riot of spectacular action and dubious voice acting. It all makes IT outages and statue protests seem rather tame.
The game is due out later this year for Playstation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
