There is always a head-spinning guest at the annual Art+Film Gala held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma), and this year was no exception. Kim Kardashian turned up for the swanky art bash honouring the artist Simone Leigh earlier this month sporting a famed cross necklace once worn by Princess Diana.
The reality television superstar and beauty tycoon paid £163,800 for the eye-popping, cross-shaped pendant last year at Sotheby’s London, which was created by the jewellers Garrard in the 1920s. The jewel is believed to be a unique piece, with diamonds framing large amethyst stones in a fleurée (floral) style.
In an apt bit of pearl clutching, CNN reported: “The deep plunge of her gown’s neckline and the provenance of the Renaissance-style cross has divided opinion online, with some arguing the risqué cut feels incongruous with the religious symbol.”
