Is Kanye West getting all arty again? The musician and rap superstar, who is now known legally as Ye, gave a lengthy interview to the artist Tino Sehgal for the culture magazine 032c where he describes his plans for a “performance piece” called The Funeral Rehearsal of Kanye West. The clue is in the title as the headline-hitting singer is (supposedly) planning to stage his own end-of-life ceremony. What form this will take remains to be seen but Kanye (Ye) let slip some details. “[The piece] is the death of Kanye West, It is the death of the ego that separates us—it’s the birth of humanity,” he said, adding that he believes artists should plan their own funeral rehearsals (Marina Abramovic has been working on hers for years incidentally). We also like his concept of turning all of his homes into churches, which may be a little more challenging logistically. Kanye (Ye) apparently came up with the idea during a visit to Berlin earlier this year when he visited the Pergamon Museum, the Julia Stoschek Collection, the Boros collection and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
