Sew unique: last chance to bid for textile works made by artists and prison inmates

There is not long left to bid online for a series of new textile works designed by contemporary artists and stitched by prison inmates as part of the latest initiative organised by the Fine Cell Work charity (Human Touch). Artists such as Ai Weiwei, Annie Morris, Cornelia Parker, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Bob and Roberta Smith are participating, working with prisoners detained in UK institutions. Ai's Odyssey in Quilting (2019) comprises 28 embroidered panels melded together in a variation of a Log Cabin style quilt (the artist wrote to each of the 13 stitchers who worked on his piece). Tillmans has turned one of his most effective anti-Brexit posters into a cushion (stitched in one prison by three stitchers; minimum bid of £10,000). "The charity's respectful and sensitive approach to supporting a prisoner's rehabilitation through the immersive and skilled process of needlework is most impressive," Tillmans says.
