Like father, like daughter: William Morris Gallery celebrates May Morris

The William Morris Gallery in northeast London is shining a light on the unsung talents of the Victorian textile designer’s younger daughter, the craftswoman, writer, teacher and campaigner for female artists, May Morris (1862-1938). The gallery has reached its £15,000 crowdfunding target to stage a major new exhibition this autumn on May’s key contribution to the Arts and Crafts movement. May Morris: Art and Life (7 October-28 January) will bring together embroideries, jewellery, costumes and works on paper from across UK collections—some of them never exhibited since her death. But with just two days to go until the official end of the campaign on the Art Fund’s Art Happens website, the gallery is making a final call out for donations to “bring May Morris out of her father’s shadow”.
