The artist Paul Chan, who now publishes erotica and once staged Waiting for Godot in post-Katrina New Orleans, is no stranger to politics or obscenity. But he never expected the Donald Trump protest signs produced by his publishing house Badlands Unlimited—which riff on those made by the controversial Westboro Baptist Church and read “TRUMP HATES GOD”, “GOD HATES TRUMP”, and “FAGS HATE TRUMP”—to be removed from Facebook and Instagram. “Our theory is that our post went viral,” he said. “And people who did not agree with the messages in the posts complained.” A spokeswoman from Instagram called the decision an “error” and said it had been fixed. “We sometimes get things wrong,” she added.
