The enigmatic singer Antony Hegarty, who identifies as transgender and now goes by the name of Anohni, has turned to curating, with plans to show pieces that are “important to her” in a show at the Kunsthalle Bielefeld in northern Germany next month (Anohni: My Truth, 23 July-16 October). The musician, who founded the avant-garde group Antony and the Johnsons, has chosen works by Peter Hujar, the late US photographer who chronicled the Aids crisis in New York, the late Japanese Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno and the Californian artist James Elaine. Anohni will display some of her own creations, including collages made from found pieces and hot wax paintings, which show “an awareness of the destruction of our environment through climate change”, the organisers say.
