Liverpool museum director David Fleming got into trouble over the Parthenon sculptures by allowing a group campaigning for their return, Marbles Reunited, to book one of its spaces for its regional launch at the Walker Art Gallery, which houses copies of the disputed sculptures. The British Museum was concerned that a fellow national museum was to let its premises be used in this way. National Museums Liverpool then decided “not to confirm” the booking and explained that “publicity surrounding the event has resulted in National Museums Liverpool being portrayed inaccurately as backing the lobbying campaign.”
