Art on the box: art stars, cities and insider info on The Art Show

Accessible and appealing TV programmes on art are few and far between, so we’re looking forward to a new series called The Art Show, which could break the mould. The eight-part project, produced by the UK company Infinity Creative Media, features five presenters including Kate Bryan, the former director of the Art15 fair, and the artist Charming Baker, who meet the art stars of today (Jason de Caires Taylor is seen making sculpture casts for his new underwater museum off the coast of Lanzarote). Another strand in each one-hour show, called “Art weekender”, provides new insights into key art destinations such as Istanbul and Mumbai, while personalities behind major works throw new light on modern masterpieces (one of the best bits shows a visibly excited Sue Tilley—the voluptuous sitter in Lucian Freud’s Benefits Supervisor Resting—avidly watching the 1994 work soar in price at auction in New York). Russ Lindsay, the co-director of Infinity Creative Media, aims to syndicate the series to broadcast platforms and outlets worldwide (interested investors keen on backing this new TV venture should contact the company). He says: “The Art Show is a mix of fun and entertainment. We’re not trying to be highbrow; no-one has yet put together a light and informative art programme.”
