LA power curator turns dealer

Former MoCA chief named partner of new gallery, Hauser Wirth & Schimmel

Hauser & Wirth gallery (1D01) plans to open a venue in Los Angeles in 2015. Paul Schimmel, who left the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, last June after 22 years as its chief curator, has been named as a partner of the gallery. He will help to develop the space, which will be called Hauser Wirth & Schimmel. The new gallery’s location will be announced early next year. An anonymous US dealer at Art Basel Hong Kong says: “His appointment is all about access to the community of artists there.”
