In memory of Michael Stanley

Friends and colleagues launch charity in honour of director

The art world lost one of its most respected figures with the death of Michael Stanley, the director of Modern Art Oxford, who took his own life in February. Last week, friends and colleagues including Gregor Muir, the director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Turner Prize winner Elizabeth Price, and the artists George Shaw and Jenny Saville, launched the Michael Stanley Education Trust, a charity to support his widow and three children and to help other families in a similar situation. “We want to channel Mike’s incredible energy into something concrete—it must not be allowed to evaporate,” says Shaw, the trust’s chairman of trustees.
