VIENNA. The Dorotheum auction house has parted company with OneTwoSold, the online auctioneers with whom it joined forces in 2001. The website’s new owner is Ricardo, an internet platform owned by South African media group Naspers, while the Dorotheum is now an independent company.
OneTwoSold did not develop as expected in Austria, especially given competition from other e-commerce sites that offer art, such as eBay. Meanwhile, the Dorotheum—which is one of the world’s oldest auction houses—has expanded into the UK with the appointment of Pauline Beaufort-Spontin as its representative in the region.
